GROWTH HORMONE AND AGING

Conclusion and References

The effects of aging on body composition, GH, and IGF-I secretion are variable, but distinct. Both GH- and IGF-I secretion decrease during aging, regardless physical exercising or calorie restriction. The optimal GH, and IGF-I levels for the elderly, regarding optimal metabolic situation and longevity are unknown. Therefore it is uncertain at this moment whether or not GH administration or stimulation of GH secretion by medication is beneficial to aging, but otherwise healthy individuals.
